First Blog.

Paper-cut.

This was quite and interesting first exercise.
The idea.
Interpretation of an image/object. Translation from a two dimensional paper-cut into three dimensions.

The Outcome.
Erik and I had come up with a project highlighting the potential of simple shapes that can be rotated, flipped, curved, twisted in ways to form an object expressing a balanced chaos yet being harmonious. Ideas of the simple shapes were explored from DeWitt's installation, Variations of an Incomplete Cube.

Our concept sketches.

The resolution.
"Branches connect and grow outward and upward. The dense inter-weaved sphere bursts forth from its rigid, two dimensional roots into three dimensional freedom. Folded planes, the remnants of the two dimensional plane, sprawls outwards into fragments. The loss of branches, resembling cracked soil following drought, contributes to a growing structure. To prevent the sphere from falling, an outer structure holds the sphere in place."
